Cybershock - Ban Review

Alright, so before I get started with it, ill give a brief summary of what happened in case you didnt know. Couple of days ago, players and moderators reported (ill go into detail later) that cyber was speaking through Dynmap and causing disruptions to RPs and also just chat in general. Now, seeing as I wasnt present at the time to see his happen, ive gone around asking witnesses what happened, while making sure their stories match up and looking up other areas, im here to post the results of these.

Keep in mind though that the reason he was banned then and there is because of the unfortunate limitations we have with Dynmap, as there is no way to mute someone other than banning them. Now onto the report.

I was sent Images of the dynmap messages from cyber in-game + peoples responses in game to this. Ill post the screenshots below.







Regarding the killing the mods did to him, they do give buffs and anything back afterwards, its usually as punishment for something. But I can respect Cybar for this, as I frown upon it myself, theres no need to kill a player as a punishment (its usually something small anyways) when a simple warning about /mute would do just fine.

Anyways, the entire conversation there could have been avoided if he just dropped it and moved on (which, granted, he said he was going to do, as mentioned later in this report) but the conversation kept getting more and more heated and eventually was just disrupting players and not really going anywhere. That being said, the responses of mario in the server were less than polite also...

Witness Report

A few players mentioned Audrey and Jammy being called demons by Cyber, and how Audrey should be demoted (unknown reason). He was asked to apologize after by Cia and Burger but stated it was a joke and refused to apologize afterwards to the two. However, he did eventually do so after a  time.

Looking at this Id have to go off my personal opinion and say that it was a joke at first, since there seems to be little reason for it, and personality-wise its likely he'd do that. While thats excusable, what happened afterwards is not, as a simple apology would have solved the entire problem. Even if it is a joke, if you have offended the other person they deserve at least 'sorry'.

Another point that was made was that Cyber commented on RPs that were in progress negatively. Supposedly because he was bored (Cant really use this since its based on perception by another player)

RPs are a big part of the server, and interrupting or ruining that in any way is inexcuable. While only one person commented on this when I questioned people, Ive seen it myself in-game so still can use it as evidence

Flammole Appeal

Shortly after the ban, we received an email from Flam regarding Cyber. It talked about how Cyber was going to co-operate by leaving Dynmap, but was banned before he could do so. It also showed a conversation between cyber and flam which shed some light on a few things. (I wont post exactly what was said, for privacy's sake)

Throughout the discussion, cyber was very co-operative and showed no signs of anger towards the server, its players or its owner. In fact he completely understood the reasons why he was banned and respect cia a little, saying that the comments from the skyscraper server were a little too harsh.

Also afterwards, flam talked to Cia via Dynmap about Cyber. Things that were mentioned was that he has periods of time where he just acts this way. I can confirm this as there are other times where hes completely okay in the server.

Looking at this evidence you can clearly see that hes passionate about staying in the server and completely understands the reasoning behind what happened. Having this view so soon afterwards shows a good level of maturity and is respectable itself =].

Conclusion

Looking at all the evidence presented, I would say that while his actions were disruptive and against the rules, it wasn't too serious an offense and also he understands and respects the reasoning behind the punishment. However, I also think that he needs to change if he wishes to return, as his negative opinions and discussions do disrupt other players in the server (including myself at times).

So I would suggest a very short temp ban of about 1 or 2 weeks. This will give him time to think about it and also spend inside the skyscraper server as well, and see if that is the place for him instead. After the ban is over, he can decide whether he wants to come back or stay on another server =].

As of today (monday 7th), Cyber's temporary ban is now over, and he is now allowed back into the server =]

Please take into account the reasons you were suspended previously and be sure to not repeat them. Concequences will be more serious the second time round.
