Going out of town for a week, and Q+A!
Hello ladies and gentlemen, big and small. I'm going to be out of town for a week starting this Friday. I'd just like to say thank you all for making this such a wonderful experience for me on the server. The kindness and generosity of the players and staff have been overwhelming. I'm proud to be able to call myself a member of this community and it's going to take a lot to make me want to turn away, so you're stuck with me!
Anyway, while i'm out of town I will be on a toaster of a laptop that can't run Minecraft. However, I will have access to the forums, skype, and steam! So while I won't be around on the server, perhaps I can get to know some of the community members here a bit better through places I've mentioned.
Skype: spitfire_matt
Steam: http://steamcommunity.com/id/captspit/
I would also like to treat this post as sort of a Q and A for myself. I don't mind some sillyness, but at least put a more serious question after and I shall happily answer both!

Question 1: what kind of laptop are you using? XD
I can run Minecraft just fine on an Acer c720 Chromebook... So unless your computer is really really old or slow, it could be that its only Windows that's the toaster (which is being redundant). XD
Anyway, have fun!!

The laptop I will be using is a Dell Inspiron. I didn't expect to want to become a PC gamer until after I purchased it for school, and it's quite a few years old. It played most 2D games such as Terraria, Castle Crashers, and Don't Starve quite well. When I tried playing TF2, it made toast (gluten free) out of my lap due to overheating and struggled to keep the game running at a frame rate above 11.
Here is a dreadful screenshot of TF2 looking like Runescape 06.

But there are about a gajillion Dell Inspiron laptops! Was it old enough to come preinstalled with Windows XP or was it already a post-Vista model? XD
Either way, I'd challenge you that you could probably double its performance of your laptop if it ran a more efficient OS that treated the hardware with a little more TLC than Windows (which is geared towards using up as many hardware specs as possible). Either way, though, 3D-heavy games like that killing game of yours are always going to be mildly sluggish without a graphics card or robust processor to handle it. ^^

Well Cia i'm not very good with computers or baking, and you seem quite knowledgeable on both subjects. Feel free to throw some of that knowledge my way x3

Okay! Well food can come later, but for computers, I'd suggest you get acquainted with this little free OS here...

Your homework this week is to find out what a LiveCD (or LiveUSB) is and how to use one. With that knowledge, new doors will open for you as far as how you can customize your machines, as well as rescue Windows machines from their inevitable deaths and croaks, as I've seen happen a million times. The worst thing that could happen is seeing a Windows box die, not know what to do, and choose between losing all your files reinstalling or paying someone a lot of money to lose all your files for you... But armed with this new tool, we can escape that fate. ^^

Ah, good old Linux Mint... we've actually gravitated to that at work. We were all on various flavors of Ubuntu except for a couple of Mac users, but with the changes to Unity and issues with Kubuntu I eventually had, I made the change as well.

Oh yes, I lost faith in Ubuntu a while ago, they don't know what they want anymore. XD
Linux mint definitely strikes a better compromise between change-for-the-sake-of-change and sticking with what works. ^^

So the whole linux thing isn't going to workout while i'm out of town due to this laptop connecting and disconnecting to the internet as it pleases. I've tried reasoning with it but the laptop called me a few nasty names and continued being difficult.
I'll look more into it when I return home on Thursday.
