Server Outage

Hello all,

I was notified by Flamm that both Big Sister and Little Brother are currently down and are unable to start, even through console.  I had to notify the server's tech support to determine what's wrong, but given it affected both servers and both are currently running on Minecraft Forge for 1.6.4, I suspect they may have tried updating their Java or something.  

Anyway, I'll notify everyone on developments.

Okay, the servers are now back online!  (unlike our old parent server, our outages last minutes rather than weeks, lol) XD

So my assumption was correct and the host did update all their servers to Java8, apparently because it significantly improves performance or something.  However, rather than fix my problem regressing to Java7, they suggested I added this to the /mod folders....

http://files.minecraftforge.net/LegacyJavaFixer/legacyjavafixer-1.0.jar

And I did, and lo and behold, the servers magically became operational again!

So I was wondering if perhaps this couldn't be used to get Gulliver compatible with Java8?  I'm wondering if any of you guys would be adventurous enough to test this out on your machines, and see if indeed this new patch mod can finally resolve that month-long annoyance.

I just tested this out. I first installed Java 8, and switched my profile to use it, after placing the legacyjavafixer.jar in the mods folder. It started up just fine.

I then went ahead and uninstalled Java 7, and it also worked just fine.

The only test I haven't done is a full reboot to make sure Java 7 is completely gone, but that shouldn't be necessary.

Just a note for those who aren't as technically inclined - on windows 7, the mods folder for .minecraft is in a location that looks like the following:

C:\Users\<your user name here>\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\mods

So for me, it looks like this:

C:\Users\Lomgren\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\mods

It seemed obvious but actually if you don't know it can be quite hard to find, good idea

Aye, although it still never ceases to amaze me how some of the most fervent guide-skippers and short-attention-spanners still seem to grasp the concept of "dragging file into /mods folder".  It's kind of a mind-blowing paradox.  XD
