Wanted: Little Brother Committee

Hey all!

Given I have my hands full running Big Sister, and Little Brother is intended to be a lot more democratically-run, I'd like to invite players to form a committee on how best to run it.

In fact since currently there are no real rules yet established for Little Brother, I'd like to hear your various ideas for how it should be run, what should be voted on, who will be responsible for keeping it tidy.

If you're interested in learning the broad ideas of mine own that I have....

• Each month we will choose a new mod selection to install on this server - it can be one or multiple mods working together (e.g., Gulliver, Little Blocks, Custom NPCs)
  
• Each month we could choose a specific map to initially place on this server
  
• Each month we could choose a different rule set, including moderation rules (if any)
  
• The server will at times be taken offline for testing purposes
  
• The server will be useful as a backup server in the event of Big Sister outages
  
• At the end of each month, the world will be backed up and provided as a free download if possible
  
• At the end of each month, a Demolition Day will be had to destroy the existing world to make way for the new one.
  

"Demolition day" This officially sounds like a blast!   

Kidding aside, I have a question and suggestion/observation:

1. Are we going to have democratically elected mods or give the Big Sister mods jurisdiction over Little Bro?

2. Since we're essentially doing a hard reset every month I doubt we'd need very strict rules. Massive damage to the world should be difficult to achieve and,because of the lack of permanence,minor. But, just in case, it would be prudent to have the poll include an option to have world destroying elements removed.

While I'm not saying I wouldn't have fun with the more destructive aspects I would rather not be killed by a nuke without prior knowledge of the possibility.

Well part of the committee idea is to get people together to create guidelines for Little Brother (as I still have my hands full switching over Sister).

But yes, I strongly favor a system whereby, with the exception of ultra-high-level staff (like owners and field moderators), moderators can be chosen democratically each month on the Little Brother server.  There would have to be rules comparable to those in real life, such as mods can't serve more than two consecutive terms back-to-back, to allow for a little player movement.  But otherwise, in addition to testing mods and maps, this would be a great way to test players as well to see if they're Moderator, Commissioner or Deputy material.

[at the very least, it gives them a chance to have a taste of how it feels to live a cursed life, so that way they can covet it less]  XD

And as for your second question... yes, that's probably a decision best left up to vote.  If players choose to allow the option for nuclear annihilation, you might have to build a bunker. ^__^

Thankfully, the Sister Server will always be around to lend a sense of peace, stability and security, in the face of a [potentially] bat-shot-crazy Little Brother server.  XD

Well...I also never promised that I would be blameless in the event of nuclear apocalypse.

lol, well that wasn't schizophrenic at all, but yeah... welcome to the Committe, Ajj!!  Thank you for volunteering, I hope there will be more people to join your cause. ^^

In fact, your first order of business should be to get a few more people to join the Little Brother forum committee.... at least up to 5-6 would be good.  

Just as a reminder, Little Brother is a server by the people, for the people, with little if any Cia intervention, so don't be afraid to make some off-the-wall decisions if you feel it will make it more fun to play on in the given month.  It's a development and testing server, so by all means experiment!  

Oh, was this-[looks at first paragraph]-cue facepalm. I would like to formally request membership in the Little Brother governing committee. On a completely unrelated note: Hey, they've got my skin!

Thank you, Burger-kun!  I will mention this in my blog to see if I can get more people to participate in this. It's to many people's benefit, as committee members are more likely to gain moderator access in Little Brother as well.

Oh, seems interesting as the talk has been going on about this for a while now, and it seems we're starting one of the fist steps!   

On that note, if you'd accept, I would like to join the Little Brother Committee

Yay!  Well makes sense, Bran Muffin is MY little brother, so it's only natural.

I would love to join the committee. I know some mods and plugins that would be fun, just one question will we change the version because i dont think there are many mods/plugins for snapshot.

And to answer your question, yes, Little Brother is an Anything server, so each month you can request installation of any version of Minecraft, mods, and maps that you decide on. You can even try something retro, if you feel that can keep you guys entertained for a full month.

Okay, committee people thus far...

I won't [or shouldn't] have much to do in the way of governance of the Little Brother server.  Unfortunately that means I will need you guys to do a little work, to ensure the Little Brother server stays a free and democratic server.  Otherwise, I'll just end up appropriating it and turning it into another dictatorship of fear, terror and bread.  

So to help you along, here's what I think you guys need to do before the end of January...

• Write up some quick guidelines for how you should run the server.
  
• Collect between 6-10 mod configuration ideas, and open a poll to vote on February Flavor.
  
• Collect some map ideas, and open a poll to vote on the one for the February Flavor.
  
• Nominate 1-2 moderators to manage the server in February.  Interested players have a chance to gain moderatorship for a month by participating in a snap election.  
  
• Schedule January's Demolition Day.
  

Please get to all this above as soon as you can -- you're free to open new topics here in Brainstorming and in the Polls section.  

I do think this committee needs a few more actively posting members, so, if you'll accept me, I'll gladly offer up my services.
